Resolutions are a phase, they take us places from the 1st of January till perhaps the 10th of January, I never met another person who could live out their resolution into a lifestyle habit. So I thought, how about you mix things up every half year? That doesn’t seem an unrealistic goal, commit yourself to something for six months, by which time you can set your sights higher, achieve greater goals by the end of the year. I beg all of you to try this because… warning: your life will get more productive.
I said on January 1st 2014 I would change some things, the usual weight loss that comes after christmas festivities of course, to eat less carbs, to save money and finally to grow my mind to educate myself in some new subjects.
Most have gone all well and dandy, I cut out carbonated drinks, some alcohol and juices and stuck to water, tea, black coffee, green tea and lemon water which to some people has weirded them out but I’m doing this for my benefit not theirs. Same with breads, cakes, pastries, noodles and rice, I have a quarter of my plate with carbs to stop overindulging, as a result I’ve lost a few pounds here and there, toned up a bit more on a stationary bike, went jogging that went a bit slack after some weeks, I need to buy scales and document my progress but I’m putting one stone as my next threshold and then I’ll stop. Clothes feel and look better, I’m having less days of feeling like poop because I’ve been more active, and carbs haven’t held me down in a state of laziness.
Money wise, I’ve saved a massive jar of pennies, pound coins, fivers and odds and sods, but no inclination how to go about exchanging for notes or back into my bank. At the end of every week I emptied out my purse, anything at all went in the jar, to begin a fresh week monday morning going to the ATM empty pursed was enlightening!
I always knew in the back of my mind, a website was to come, and with knowledge of html from my myspace days could come great things, I read up further into seo, hmtl and javascripts to go hand in hand with my extensive knowledge of graphic design. I read more books, re-reading the Hunger Games, The Fault In Our Stars before the public knew the movie was to come, Looking For Alaska and finally How To Become A Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul, which is hilarious and recommend to anyone who loves a dark sense of humour about art.
My new half year resolutions are now as followed:
- lose one stone
- be impulsive
- grow more as an individual
- decorate a few more rooms
- try everything to the best of my ability.
Have you got any half year resolutions?
