We all know the feeling, your face feels a stone heavier, smothered in gloop, your head disorientated and cannot string together a sentence or two, your temperature is up and down and all around
There are a lot of things that cause that icky feel; stress, overworking your body, extreme temperatures and lack of hygiene.
Over the past week I have fallen trap to the grasp of disease and contamination of festival fever.
Today I’m going to share my best tips for getting over the yucky blue days that sometimes make you lose hope and feel slow, sluggish and tiresome. Here is how to glamourise the classic sick day…
1. COMPANION
I’ve always been one to hide being ill, I don’t like people making a fuss and bother about me, and prefer they get on with taking care of themselves but sometimes (most the time) we need a companion or friend to relieve those blue days, whether it’s bringing an extra pillow to support your head, boiling a hot water bottle or putting on your fave Disney movie, they are there to support your every need. Do not take advantage, too much. I infected mine with the sniffles and tickly cough, make sure they take as many precautions as you do to avoid contamination!
This little monster has been taking care of me too, this is Mia, the strangest cat ever to grace this earth, but she provides interesting company when I’m feeling pretty low. Cats and dogs are natural therapists and scientifically proven to lower blood pressure and stress.
Who doesn’t love stroking a purring bundle of fluff?
2. MEDICINE
Whilst I am a big believer in the natural remedies for things, we do sometimes have to accept that our bodies need a little boost. I take Vitamin C, A-Z and Cod Liver Oil supplements every day, they’re amazing knowing you’ve packed in all the key vitamins your body needs and promote overall goodness for you, and your immune system to battle further illnesses, yay for vitamins!
For any vegans or vegetarians reading I shouldn’t have to explain the vital reasons why you need to pack in as many vitamins as you can. Vitamins are relatively inexpensive also for what they are, and super handbag friendly so you cannot forget to take them!
In terms of other medicines, listen to your local GP and always take the required dosages of every thing, for me I felt it wasn’t nessacary to take issues to my doctor and over the counter paracetomol, lemsips and hot lemon did the world of goodness for what I needed!
3. REST
I poured myself a bath the other day and crumbled half of Lush’s Brightside bubble bar under the tap, and even if it can take away the stress of being ill Lush has done its job good, I always use them as a mix up in my evening routine, after a tired, long or boring day. Soaking in the hot bubbles cleared up some of my nose, throat and beginnings of a migraine. Thank you Lush! Afterwards I like to leap into my comfy strawberry onesie and lounge around!
Can we appreciate these socks by Chatty Feet*, I love how bold, bright and snug they are, I have 4 pairs, Yoko Mono, Venus, Loli, and Kloss The Clown! They have become my favourite socks to step out the door in, and have got quite a few compliments off! Check them out here!
Treat yourself for once to a little luxury, something to perk up your day! The importance of you maintaining as relaxed as possible whilst you recover is absolutely crucial, your body is in recovery, and healing generally speeds up when we do not put ourselves under strain. Aim to get between 7-10 hours sleep a night, I recently got Quincy and could not speak whatsoever to the point of tears and my doctor told me to get as much rest, not only on my voice but body to boost my immune system and sleep 12 hours if possible. It goes to show how rest truly affects you and how very important it is. ~I should take my own advice really as an insomniac~
4. GO ONLINE
The world is your oyster online, you can browse through social media, tweet, pin, instagram anything you want. Tumblr is a great site for being ill, a great mix between comedy, art, and entertainment.
I see the generic thing to do when you’re ill is to watch every movie as possible. From my days in primary my dad will regret one sick day letting me watch Ferris Buellers Day Off, the king of bunking in the 80’s! My sick movie was Breakfast At Tiffanys, we all adore a classic here!
A great way to take your mind off how you feel is to go on Youtube and look at tutorials and vlogs, alternatively you can get up to speed on your reading list of blogs, I love browsing the Popular Page of Bloglovin, finding nifty crafts, recipes and things to do. It opens up a whole other universe right in your bedroom!
5. HOPE
There is always hope. Without hope we cannot see the white light at the end of the dark tunnel.
I am a firm believer that the only thing that can stop us from doing or being anything is ourselves. It has been shown that we can psychologically damage ourselves through negative thinking and not being susceptible to remedies by creating a block and rejecting thoughts of recovering.
This is a subject perhaps for another post one day, something I massively want to expand on from personal experiences and those close to me, but I have seen recovery from having a positive outlet, a little faith and a lot of hope.
Praying this has helped a lot of people down with festival fever, flu from the weather gradually going cooler and the super bugs going around at the moment, let me know your thoughts
