I’lll be making my summer Instax. I teamed up a few weeks back with Fuji Instax to giveaway one of their Mini 8’s and now I wanna talk you about how this generation is going back to film. I’ll also be sharing some of best tips and tricks for getting the most out your film cameras.
Some of you may of been aware that before and throughout blogging I’ve been a photographer and still currently in uni dusting off my degree and hoping to go for a masters, so I generally know alot about cameras and love playing with different formats. Film will always be an extension of my passion, it’s like buying vinyl, no matter how good digital recordings are the crackle that comes from an analogue format will undeniably reign over and spike the nostalgic braincells that just doesn’t come from listen to something on an mp3 file.
But anywhom, not all of us have expert photographic knowledge and handle the complexities of changing film, developing and all that darkroom good stuff. Whereas the Fuji Instax Mini 8 makes documenting those adventures a breeze and enjoyable. You literally pop in the film, take your first photo to remove the plastic that covers the film and shazam! You are ready!

What I love about this nifty camera is that it comes in a variety of pastel shades, it’s so much more handbag friendly than other cameras. About 6 years ago I bought my first Instax, I got the Instax Wide which produces massive photos which unfortuntely meant I was practically carrying around another bulky DSLR whereas the Mini 8 is roughly the size of my purse making it perfect to take on day trips.
The photos themselves are similar to the Polaroid format with the white frame, Polaroid nowadays costs a small fortune for less than 10 shots, whilst per photo works out less than £1 (bargain!) After you’ve adjusted your lighting with the dial on the front and framed your shot in the viewfinder, hit the shutter button and the picture will pop out the top, allow at least 5 minutes for development.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THE FUJI INSTAX MINI 8
Put the photo straight into your bag so it can develop truly, in case of any light leaks and the contrast and colours turn out better.
If you want cooler looking shots, put the photo in the fridge for 10 minutes, and for warmer leave it out in the sun.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT ‘shake it like a polaroid picture’ it’s incredibly damaging to the longevity of the photo and also the ink rolls around and blurs the photo into blobs, it doesn’t promote development (if I had a penny for every time someone did this).
Store your photos away from sunlight if you want them to last years.
Get in closer as the focal range is 2-8ft, but most of all just have fun and experiment!
