It’s no secret that the best hidden gems are tucked away down the back streets, I went down to one of my favourites to try out the new menu and celebrate the weekend with the best burgers and cocktails in Liverpool.
Our night started off with two Hurricane cocktails which is Santa Teresa Claro and El Dorado 5yr Old Rum, shaken with passionfruit, orange juice, grenadine & lime. A refreshing zing of citrus and slight aged smoke – delicious and made us super hungry!
As much as Mojo encourage throwing shapes like Mo Farrah every time an Arctic Monkeys song comes on (Guilty, every saturday night in this place!) their food is something of secretacy, which is time to change as they brought out a funky new menu of tastey treats for all American Diner lovers and what I think of is ‘proper food for proper music lovers’
We started out with some appetizers to get the whole shebang going. we munched through a street tray of beer battered dill pickle spears, Quesadilla consisting of black beans, sweetcorn and cheese, with pico de gallo, in a griddled flat tortilla with tequila and lime sour cream, Fried mac & cheese balls with a gooey and spicy centre. Served with chipotle mayo. Cooked to total perfection.
I personally vouched for the mac and cheese balls, I’ve never experienced a proper mac and cheese and could have had a full plate of them – definitely something I’ve never found in the north west.
We were served an interesting looking cocktail with blue salt (very Breaking Bad!) called a Palomina, which is Tapatio Reposado Tequila, Pink Grapefruit Liqueur, lime, agave and grapefruit juice, and served tall.
On their new menu they have a selection of burgers and wings fit for all tastes. Presented on another tray is The Achiote, a Mexican achiote pork burger with chipotle mayo, jalapeño poppers and a squeeze of lime, The Chicken, a crispy fry chicken thighs with jack cheese, finished with MOJO’s Luisiana No.1 Hot Sauce and The Veggie, a tasty beetroot and bean burger with a garlic mushroom and tequila & lime sour cream.
The night was topped off with a classic Mojo indulgent rum and ginger chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream.and two Killer Royales, a cocktail consisting of Homemade Ribena Sherbert, Absolute Vodka and Prosecco.
Coming to Mojo always feels like home, it’s a fabulous place to both dine and boogie, I wrote about Dining and dancing on tables in Mojo in June, for more info on the best places in Liverpool to party!
