Today I’m talking you through how to do a Halloween Zombie Mermaid look, this years costume and makeup so you can get practising for next week.
It was pretty inevitable right? Still not sure why I didn’t decide to be a zombie mermaid sooner!
I was stuck between this, the pink panther and a lion – which would of required kissing goodbye to rainbow hair so todays look is a twist on a classic mermaid incorporating a few extras to look super spooky.
I got my costume from Smiffys, who for me are always the go to, because if I can’t decide anything online I always rush down to my local store in town and usually end up with a big basket of fake blood, decorations and halloween treats. Their prices are pretty good next to costumes that fall apart while you’re wearing it and you pay so much more! I got my skeleton costume from them last year and it’s actually a workable item that I would wear layered up. Even if you’re stuck for a costume, I’ve always found the Smiffys staff to be a treat to chat away to!
I was hunting around my studio for some hair accessories and something to resemble a shell, and the answer was just sitting there in my jewellery tray. This hair pin was an extra goodie in one of my parcels from I Heard They Eat Cigarettes but you can get them on Ebay incredibly cheap as a last minute buy.
I’m super impressed with the quality of my costume, which is surprisingly thick. In my mermaid pack I received a purple shell top and a mermaid skirt with trimmings of net and lace to replicate destroyed fins. So after putting on the costume I thought of a few ways to connate a feminine, evil zombie mermaid without going too gore. You can find my Zombie Mermaid Costume here!
I did my usual skincare and makeup routine, using my Clarins foundation and Instant Concealer but with a fair amount of Benefit Porefessional Primer underneath as I wanted this to last and not sweat off, which is the best primer for a night out.
Next I used a combination of my Urban Decay Naked Palette, Barry M Eyeshadow Palette and Kiko Infinity Eyeshadow made a strong colourful look, replacing contour lines and existing shadow with patches of colour up my neck, cheeks, around my nose, the arch of my brow and across my forehead.
With the initial skin colour done I used a lip brush to apply small dots of colour and with a blue eyeliner small ‘u’ shapes to look like scales, a little goes a long way with this, so being selective in your approach looks more subtle and effective. I brushed a layer of old halloween glitter over each area and blended into my normal skin colour and around my neck, shoulders and arms to make my skin look grey and desaturated, it really is meant to be not too striking.
I finished off my eyes with my normal eyeliner from Clarins 3-Dot Liner, and used Benefits They’re Real Blue Mascara to add a pop of colour to both my lashes and eyebrows with a quick run through with the Rimmel Wake Me Up Mascara as it’s just a darn good mascara to get your lashes thick and long.
For my lips I used the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Oh So Wicked (my latest few favourite shade!)
