LOCATION: SCENE DINING, SPINNINGFIELDS, MANCHESTER
Greeted at the door with big smiles and the wittiest hostess ever, I was so overwhelmed how personable everyone in the restaurant was. Each person is completely tailored to, so even if you don’t know what you want to be eating that day they can walk you through all the best dishes for you.
We started off with popadom smashing, one of my favourite things to do in a meal – don’t know what it is? Watch Mr Nice. It’s all served up with mango chutney, mint sauce and spiced onions. Spiced onions are simply magical, I’m often pondering how I lived my life without this dip, I now want it on everything.
For starters we wanted to try it all but our eyes were bigger than our tummies. The serving portions are unspeakably big and I really encourage you bring a friend or two to share it all or doggy bag the lot for midnight snacks. Luckily we tried a couple of extra goodies that were exclusively off the menu for next seasons bundle of yummyness.
We tried the Salmon Ka Tikka, which is marinated in dill and ginger. If you’re a fish person definitely go for this it’s incredible! Followed by the Seekh Kebab, a minced meat dish seasoned with green chillis and onions all tossed in herbs and spices to make a delicious dish, also it’s massive so definitely a sharer in my eyes.
Scene have their alternative to chips or wedges they have Bada Pau (see below) which is one of the most popular Indian street dishes, as it’s super quick and tastes like a dream!
We tried this alongside the gunpowder potatoes another potato treat with a big pow of spice and taste, it’s definitely super spicy but more tasty than hot spice!
Their starters menu offers everything from calamari to griddled chicken and veg manchurian an amazing floret of cauliflower wok fried dish. There’s so much choice for every type of foodie! I was so fond of the Aloo Tikki Chaat combining green pea and potato cakes with spiced chickpeas and completed with drizzled chutneys and sweet yoghurt. Everything will give you the biggest spice cleanse of your life and make you feel super refreshed and revived!
For mains we took it super easy but were determined to try everything they had to offer.
The sneak peeks from the new menu are really something special, I wish I could reveal all so you’ll just have to be tempted by these delicious dishes in all the photos.
We ended up going with the Monkfish Malai, a Murgh Saag, a Lucknow Chicken Biryani (which if you like saffron, rose water and fresh coriander will be the dish that leaves you smirking with happiness it’s so so very good!)
A few other choices we went for (which I sooo wish I could remember the name!) were this delicious burger below, saffron rice, and an Indian version of a pizza, which encompasses a pita bread like quality and smothered in herbs and spices and served up on an extra tray. All these elements of the serving spoke volumes of quintessential Indian culture. You truly feel a part of an experience and not just eating the food.
Now lets chat cocktails, because you will need them with the spice levels, all made cool and refreshing, also utilising ingredients to create something that puts your standard cosmopolitan to shame.
Once you’ve had Scenes drinks you cannot go back!
I wanted to be surprised and see what Scene could offer and I was mesmerised with this unnamed cocktail that has rose petals in. So creamy, fruity and refreshing to accompany food exploding with flavours.
Their take on a Daiquiri will blow you away, it’s bright blue and reminds me of a slush puppy, a true throwback to my childhood! Same goes for their Mojitos, I’m a picky gal when it comes to cocktails and was amazed with every cocktail that came to my table. They also offer up mocktails for the none drinkers so you simply cannot miss out or compromise your entire experience!
See their menus over at Scene Dining and gawp at their food over at their Twitter and Instagram where I’m still trying to recreate their colourful yummy dishes.
But nothing is better than sitting in a gorgeous setting with a beautiful terrace and having the real thing, so head down to Spinningfields, Manchester to see what all the fuss is about!
