We’re all huddling up in our coats and scarves. I’ve realised that I live for the chunky coat weather. I absolutely adore summer but this exact time is perfect when the leaves start to fall, the nights darken in earlier and the wooly coats and jackets make an appearance.
MINIMALISTIC WITH INTEREST

Fashion Week has had its crescendo, and our eyes have been gawping over next seasons pieces, but we need to reflect back to the present where the chilly weather has us an arms length away from a floor length scarf. Today I’m talking all things autumn and dressing for colder days without compromising added detail and interest into our wardrobes.

Todays ensemble has been playing around with the idea of using a statement coat alongside a chic but relaxed print dress. I’m still very much into the idea of cold shoulder bardot dresses, and especially a tie waist to cinch me in the right places. So the combination of the coat and dress resonates a laid back casual vibe but still holds the sophistication of being an outfit I can go to a meeting in.
This very easy look, due to it’s minimalistic nature can easily be styled up with a variety of looks. So to complete the outfit I’ve accessorised mine with croc high ankle boots, and finished with a matching croc clutch and my statement Rayban wayfarers.
Doing minimal with interest is my late speciality, I’ve been channeling a relaxed and not so bright or bold look. I’ve found simplicity in my use of textures and minimal colour palettes. The combination of the dress and coat reminds me of a safari theme. I got my coat last year when I saw a rise of strikingly beautiful wool army trench coats and been dipping it out ever since the cold breeze hit me.
TIPS FOR STYLING A WINTER COAT
Yes even in the deepest and coldest tundra you can make fashion possible.
If you’re going for the chic Fashionista insider look, read on for my tips on how to style a winter coat.
1.
Experiment with accessories! This is an absolute must, because it’s just so fun. This is the time to play around with chunky scarves and skinny scarves – add this to a sophisticated trench coat and you’ll be on your way to Parisian chic in no time. This also applies to hats and gloves, sport a fluffy cossack hat, or be bang on trend with a poetic French beret.
2.
Boots, boots and more boots. Protect your chilly toes with an investment pair of boots to battle the elements in. They can give an outfit life and make it the talking point. I say this to everyone I’ve ever done an interview with that the ultimate two items you should always lavish on is good coats and good boots. Boots take you on adventures and provide the beauty of structure whilst giving you height or extra embellishment to an ensemble.
3.
It sounds ridiculous but layering will never ever go out. Become a layering pro by trying out radical things like putting black tights under ripped jeans – if models can look fab doing it so can we!
Turtlenecks under short sleeve dresses. Be inventive with your layering and stay warm!
