Coffee Date Style Inspiration

Picking The Perfect Autumn Outfit For Your Pumpkin Spice Latte

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]irst dates are always nerve-wracking. As well as deciding on the perfect activity — something that’s interesting but doesn’t stop you from getting to know each other — you’ll also need to decide on the perfect outfit to suit the mood. As Britain falls more in love with coffee, the popularity of coffee dates is on the rise. In 2015, Starbucks was named the most popular destination for a first date. Offering the chance to chat in a relaxed atmosphere, it’s easy to see why this type of date is so popular —but just what should you wear? Providing some style inspiration ahead of your next big date is global womenswear designer Ralph Lauren on how to get the best look for your next coffee chat.

Casual chic

The beauty of a café date is that it almost always comes with a relaxed dress code — meaning jeans and flats are totally acceptable. For a casual yet chic look, try a dark pair of denim jeans and wear with a pair of canvas trainers or flat ankle boots. On top, keep it simple and cosy by layering a jumper over a checked shirt. Choose complementing colours — for example, if your shirt is predominantly red checks, contrast with a navy sweater. Try new ideas, if you’re more flamboyant, the most contrastive thing you can do is dress down, but dress to suit your personality and comfort!

Dress it up

Just because autumn has arrived it doesn’t mean you have to ditch the dresses all together. Rather, it simply provides you with more style possibilities – those possibilities are simply endless! Denim shirt dresses were popular for summer 2017 and they are proving a key transitional piece for autumn/winter 2017. Let’s face it, denim will always be in, so stock up for having pieces that won’t just transition you through autumn but throughout the years too. Instead of wearing them with sandals, add an autumnal vibe with chunky tights and ankle boots with a chunky block heel. You could even throw over a cardigan too. Cable knits are my favourite, I own one in almost every colour! Don’t be afraid of prints and patterns either. Dark florals are perfect for mastering this season’s grunge-inspired trend. Of course, checks and plaid patterns emerge every autumn/winter and 2017 is set to be no different.

Comfort and colour

Arriving for a date in a perfect outfit that you are uncomfortable in is a big no-no. Your discomfort will resonate with your date and whether or not you intend to or not, you may find yourself losing focus on what they are saying. Feeling good in what you wear is important, so don’t be afraid to choose an old favourite or something that you regularly get complimented on. If you feel good, you’ll look good! With International Coffee Day taking place on Sunday 1 st October, why not arrange a coffee date for your next meet-up with your potential beau?
