[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e travel halfway around the world to see incredible natural features like the Grand Canyon or Niagara Falls, but what about all of the amazing places right on your doorstep? The Giant’s Causeway in Ireland is one of the most incredible natural features in the world, and a lot of people living in the UK have never been to see it. If you’re one of those people, get ready to explore Northern Ireland and plan a trip over there as soon as you can because there’s nothing like it.Here are a couple of great tips to help you plan your trip.
If you’re going over to Ireland to see the Giant’s Causeway, you should make a weekend of it and experience Belfast while you’re there. A lot of people stay in Ballycastle so they can be nearby and get there early in the morning, but it’s not far to go from Belfast. If you’ve never visited Ireland before, you’ll get a better experience staying in Belfast than you would somewhere nearer the Causeway.
Stay In Belfast
Rent A Car
There are some coach trips available from Belfast and if you don’t drive, that’s the easiest way to get there. But renting a car in Ireland once you get off the ferry is usually easier. You don’t need to worry about how you’re going to get to Belfast and it gives you a bit more freedom so you don’t have to plan your visit around the coach times.
A lot of people get confused when they go to see the Giant’s Causeway and they end up paying the £12 to get into the visitor’s centre. But you don’t need to pay to see the Causeway itself, it’s a separate thing. The visitor’s centre just has some information about it and a few souvenirs to buy, so it’s not really worth the money. It’s best to skip it entirely and head straight down to the Causeway. The only thing that you will have to pay for is the parking if you drive down.
Don’t Pay For The Visitors Centre
Look For The Red Trail
There is a tunnel that takes you straight through to the Giant’s Causeway and most people will go straight through. But before you go that way, you should find the Red Trail. It’s a track that takes you up to the top of the cliff so you can get some great views from the top. Once you’ve seen it from up there, you can go down and see it up close.
You need to dress for the weather while you are down there because you will be right next to the ocean. That means it’s going to be very cold and you’ll also get sprayed by waves from time to time as well, so pick something warm and waterproof. The right shoes are a must as well because there are a lot of cracks and gaps, so heels are never a good idea. Wear something flat with plenty of grip.
If you keep these simple tips in mind, you’ll have a great trip and get to experience one of the most amazing natural features in the world.
