Route 66 is the most iconic and legendary road trip and many of you may say that it is a symbol of freedom and American culture. If you are looking for Freedom, Hope, and Adventure, this is the best way to explore life. Route 66 goes through the following States:
- Illinois
- Missouri
- Kansas
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- New Mexico
- Arizona
- California
It is an amazing road trip through different time- and climate zones. You will drive through scenic mountains, deserts, rivers, small and large cities. You should definitely stop at the local “must-try” restaurants and explore a mysterious and vintage foodie paradise!
It is an endless road ready to be explored. Fuel up on authentic American food and hit the road. The best time to travel is between April and June, but September is a good time as well. Always check the weather forecast, especially during monsoon season.
During the summer it is extremely hot. Don’t forget your sunglasses! If you need tips on how to select good sunglasses, click here
Believe me, winter is not the best time to travel especially if you will drive through Chicago which is known for the freezing winters.
Don’t forget to visit the Cadillac Ranch with the nose down-buried and painted cars outside of Amarillo (Texas). You can leave your own “mark” there.
Another “must-see” attraction is the Oatman ghost city! It is an abandoned village in Arizona. You can visit the old gold mines and the old jail there. (The village where the wild burros roam!)
Another stop is Blue Hole in Santa Rosa New Mexico and dive into a nice cool swimming spot. Lastly, Las Vegas the city with the casinos and themed hotels down to Santa Monica where Route 66 ends. Close to the iconic End of the Trail sign you will find a shop that will give you a certificate that you completed this legendary road trip. The best Party destination is Mexico and if you are planning to go to Mexico for this New Year’s celebration you should definitely try Puerto Vallarta Nightlife they have some super cool packages for your party.
As far as the road trip time is concerned, we would like to give you a piece of advice. There is no specific time you can do a road trip. Relax and take your time to enjoy the trip. You will probably do it only once in your life so there is no hurry.
Time should not stop you. To make sure that you will discover everything, we would recommend that 3 weeks are more than enough. During this trip you will get to see almost a century’s history while driving through the heart of the US. The vintage neon-signs along the road will be unforgettable.
Before the trip you should make sure that you are well prepared. The Outdoor Stuff Guides is a website where you will find tips and guides to organize every outdoor activity.
