Clutter is annoying at best and dangerous at its worst. It gets in the way of you just getting on with things and it could become a trip hazard. When your home is a mess, it can cause you considerable stress. But trying to get rid of clutter can be a mammoth task in itself.

What you need is a system to manage the clutter that you have, and to help you to declutter the rest.

In this article, we’ll take a look at how you can manage clutter so that your home can become a less stressful environment.

Get Help

Decluttering your home is not a small task, it will be overwhelming if you try to do it all on your own. One way that you can manage the task easier is if you ask someone else if they can help you. The more hands that you have helping you out, the better.

Pick someone that will be able to provide emotional support for you too. When it comes to decluttering your home, you may be surprised at how emotional it can be at times.

Declutter

One of the best ways of managing clutter is to get rid of as much as possible, By decluttering your home, you will find that you will immediately feel less stressed.

You will need to be ruthless and honest when it comes to getting rid of clutter. Ask yourself if you really need the items in question? When was the last time you used the item? If the answer is never, then you should get rid of the item.

Auckland storage company National Mini Storage recommends that you start by going through everything that you own. Move room by room and make three piles as you go. One is items that you are going to keep, another is items that you are going to give away to charity, and the third is items that you are going to sell.

Be realistic about the items that you put in each pile. If they are not like new or are not worth much, there is no point trying to sell them.

Even when it comes to selecting items for donation, you should still make sure that you are only donating items that are of saleable quality.

Clothes

If you have a lot of clothes then storage can often be a problem. One thing that you could do is to divide your clothing between winter and summer. Keep the different seasons in separate boxes. Keep all of your shorts and summer clothes folded neatly in the box so that you can easily place them into the drawers when it comes time to swap your seasons over.

Storing your clothes folded and upright will save you space and allow you to easily see the items of clothing without having to dig through a pile of clothes. This means that your clothes are more likely to stay tidy, plus you will be able to get more items of clothing into your cupboards.
