Brief Information

Located in the Kunstareal museum district, this museum includes exhibits ranging from the late 18th to early 20th centuries. Initially, the museum was founded by King Ludwig I of Bavaria in the middle of the 19th century. During the opening speech, a German nationalist highlighted that the main goal of this establishment would be to collect present and future artworks. As a result, the Neue Pinakothek was the first museum in the country completely dedicated to contemporary art.

Considering that the original building of the museum was destroyed during World War II, one of the German architects took appropriate measures to redesign it. In 1981, it was reopened to the general public, thereby, becoming one of Germanys finest postwar museum buildings.

Nowadays, you can find artworks of many popular artists, such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, there. In the context of collections, the museum features paintings of German Realism, French Romanticism, and Symbolism. Besides, admirers of English and Scottish paintings of the 18th and early 19th centuries will be impressed by the exhibits of this museum as well. In addition to guided tours, this establishment organizes temporary exhibitions, conferences, and educational programs. People with physical disabilities can join excursions to Neue Pinakothek, as wheelchairs are offered free of charge.

By the way, the museum building includes the Hunsinger restaurant where guests have the opportunity to order a cup of coffee and sandwich. Visitors of this restaurant can also enjoy the firstclass fish and a glass of wine in the evening. In case you are looking for a museum shop, it is located right near the entrance to the museum.
