9 EXTERIOR UPGRADES TO REFRESH YOUR HOME

9 exterior upgrades to refresh your home

There is no better way to improve how your home looks than by boosting its curb appeal.

Exterior upgrades – both big and small – can refresh your home in a significant way.

If you have the will but lack the ideas on what you could do, read on. Here are some ways to make the exterior of your home much more appealing to everyone who sees it and, more importantly, to you.

Put on a fresh coat of paint

The best and most effective way to give your entire home a new look is by covering it in a fresh coat of paint.

Over time, sun, rain, and the elements will make your facade fade and lose its freshness. All you have to do then is select the right colors for your home and get painting.

Make sure to choose a shade that will make your home stand out from the crowd but doesn’t seem too wild. Choose a warm, inviting color such as tan, beige, or simply white.

Make everything pop with some trim color

Above, you have read that you should not be too extreme when choosing the primary color of your home. But, that does not mean that your home has to be boring. Trim paint can help you fix that.

Some bold-colored accents on your decorative woodwork, front door, shutters, and other such places can make your home really stand out.

Choose a color that compliments the primary color of your house, such as royal blue, turquoise, or bold red. Just don’t overdo it – you want to draw attention to several details, not overwhelm your entire place.

Fix your driveway

Even before they experience your home and step inside, people are going to see your driveway. That is why it is crucial to make it look as good as it can.

While you might be able to notice and fix some small holes and cracks by yourself, sometimes your best bet is to replace your driveway altogether.

While you could always opt for concrete pavement, choose natural stone if you want a longer-lasting, more sustainable solution that also looks good.

Make small hardware changes

While it is true that you can also give your front door a new layer of paint to achieve that fresh look, there are some more minor things that you can do to make everything look much neater.

Consider getting a new house number made in a unique style that matches your home’s aesthetic and makes it stand out from the rest.

On your front door, you can change the door handle and pair it with a matching knocker.

While you are messing with the front porch, think about replacing old light fixtures. If that is too much of an investment, simply refresh the existing light fixtures with some spray paint.

A townsville garden shed may be a great place to store all of your clutter when you’re not utilizing it.

What about the garage door?

If you have a large garage door that takes up a lot of real estate and dominates the front of your home, the trick is to make it stand out less.

Choose a color that blends well with the surroundings, but not one that is the same as the walls and stone around it. Pick a color that goes nicely with the mortar around your garage.

Doing so will create a balanced look and help the garage door blend well with the surroundings. If your garage door is not that large, go the opposite way – paint it in exciting patterns and colors to make it stand out from the environment.

Go green

Flowers and plants, in general, can go a long way in making your house look more appealing.

While a lovely flower garden is a surefire way to make your front lawn look much prettier, you don’t have to start with such a great project.

For starters, consider placing a couple of planters in front of your entrance. Choose different plants that bloom during various periods of the year to make sure that your flowers are there to make your home look as colorful as possible for the longest time.

If you don’t even know the difference between annual and perennial plants, fear not – we’ve got you covered.

Even if you do not have a vast front yard, you can always plant a few flowers and succulents in wall-mounted planters.

Add extra lighting

What good is a lovely home if nobody can see it during nighttime? That is why you should invest in some excellent exterior lighting.

Install lights over doors and add some accent lights that will draw attention to an interesting detail on your home. Perhaps you could also add some discreet lights that help outline your roofline when the night comes.

This upgrade has a lot of practical value to it as well. Well-lit places are much easier to navigate when it is dark outside.

Hide things that are not that pretty to look at

No matter how much time, love, and effort you put into making your home look as pretty as possible, some things are not that easy on the eyes. Hiding them away is a quick and easy way to make your home’s exterior look much better instantly.

For instance, consider planting some shrubs around the exterior part of your AC unit or building a small shed to put away all the kids’ toys and tools that you are not currently using.

You need a bench

A small bench near your front door can make your home look nicer.

Besides, it is a suitable place to put your purse or a package while you are rummaging and searching for the keys to your home.

People waiting for you to come home can wait for you there, and, of course, you can also enjoy sitting on your new bench and watching the neighborhood buzz.

The same advice that applies to everything else listed here goes for choosing the right bench for your home – choose something that compliments your style.

Once you bring a bench in your front yard, you will ask yourself how it was even possible to live without one there.
