A Guide to Women’s Work Shoes

There are few things as important in life as finding a pair of comfy shoes for work, especially if you work on your feet a lot. For doctors, retail workers, hospitality staff and tradespeople, it’s essential that work shoes are well fitting and good quality. After all, the last thing you want is to come home to sore feet and blisters.

According to Italian Shoemakers, finding a good pair of work shoes, albeit very important, is perhaps one of the trickiest things. If you’re struggling to find a pair, here are some top tips to keep in mind next time you go shopping.

Type of Shoe

First of all, you should think about the type of shoes you need to wear. For example, if you work in construction, you won’t be able to wear ballet pumps because they won’t offer the protection you need. It’s essential that you choose shoes that will keep your feet safe, and in the case of construction, steel toe-cap boots are your best bet. In contrast, hospitality workers won’t need to wear heavy boots because there is no need for such rigid protection, but top-covered shoes will be good in case of spills to prevent burns and wet socks.

White collar workers can get away with lightweight shoes such as pumps, and they can even wear heels as they’re not on their feet all day and so don’t need to worry quite as much about comfort.

Material

When you pick a style of shoe, you then need to look at the materials used. A good example would be in medical settings. The floors are often made of resin for easy wiping and cleaning. The downside to this is that certain types of shoe sole materials are slippery, so whilst you don’t need to wear filled in shoes, you do need something with a rubber sole. Cork nitrile soles don’t have tread, so that means there’s little in the way of grip, and this spells bad news if you work on resin or hardwood floors. The same goes for leather soles. If you choose either of these options, you could find yourself slipping and sliding all over the place.

It’s not just the material of the sole you should think about. If you work in hospitality, healthcare or animal care, you may find yourself exposed to a range of liquids and fluids, as well as food. If any of these land on your shoes and they’re made of fabric, it will be difficult to get the stains off. Instead, you’ll want to choose a leather or patent option (leather for extra durability).

Additional Support

You could find the perfect pair of shoes with the right level of protection, a well-gripping sole and a decent body material, but you might not be able to find the correct support. Everyone’s feet are different, and that’s why buying insoles is essential. A good pair of insoles will ensure a cosy fitting pair of ladies shoes, but more than this, your arches will be supported, and this will allow you to stand all day without incurring cramps and aches.

There are hundreds of types of insoles, so you will need to assess your individual needs in order to find the correct solution. Insoles can make all the difference to a pair of shoes, so if you think you’ve found the perfect pair but the comfort or arch support isn’t there, consider buying insoles.

Summary

There’s a lot to be said about a good pair of work shoes – they might even change your life – so it’s all the more important that you take your time and make the effort to find the right ones. Hopefully these tips will have helped you narrow down your search!
