Proven Ways to Maintain a Youthful Skin

Whether we like it or not, first impressions count. We judge and are being judged whenever we meet people. From our hair to what we’re wearing, how we act, and how clean our skin is, people are looking at whether we’re the kind of people they want to be seen with, and we do the same. Let’s face it, we’re more than likely going to keep talking to someone whose breath and clothing doesn’t smell rank, than someone who’s seriously lacking in the personal hygiene department.

Caring for Your Skin

The unfortunate side of this is that there are times when we can’t help the way we appear, as our health or hormones could be playing a major part in this. Furthermore, as most of us will know, our skin often decides to have a break-out when it wants to. But there are things we can do to help this, including these skincare tips, just as there are things we can do to maintain a healthy and youthful glow. With this in mind, we’ll now look at some proven ways to maintain youthful skin. The more of these you incorporate into your daily lives, the more youthful your skin will appear.

Remain Hydrated

Drinking water daily is important for various reasons, including keeping your skin hydrated. As a rule of thumb, you should aim for a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. However, this will vary according to your build and what you’re doing. Keeping hydrated will keep your skin looking radiant, smooth, and soft. Water helps your most outer layer of the skin retain the moisture it needs, whilst flushing away toxins and carrying nutrients to your skin’s cells.

Other drinks are also beneficial, including green tea. This particular drink will fight off free radicals in your body thanks to its antioxidant properties. It can also nourish your skin follicles and help curb any DNA damage. One cup of green tea first thing in the morning is enough to do all this, plus help maintains good skin health, like keeping your skin clear.

Eat a Plant-Based Diet

You are what you eat is a good mantra to have to remind yourself that what you eat tends to show on your skin. For instance, too much fried food can make your skin greasy and lead to a break-out. Processed foods should be limited, if not avoided completely, in favor of a fresh and plant-based diet. This type of diet helps ward off free radicals due to the phytonutrients found in them.

When we say plant-based, we mean a diet primarily consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables. These food groups help to both promote healthy aging and maintaining a youth body, inside and out, thanks to their key nutrients. Alongside these food groups, you should also include whole grains and lean proteins, so that your body gets all the nutrients it needs to function like a well-oiled machine.

Get Regular Sleep

Having a consistent sleep schedule is important for your mental health, as well as your physical health, too. But did you know it can also contribute to keeping your skin youthful as well? This is because when you sleep, your body is working to rejuvenate itself. This includes getting rid of old or dead cells and replacing them with new ones. Without regular, adequate sleep, your body simply can’t do this, and this shows. You’ll have bags under your eyes, as well as looking tired. You’ll also find it hard to concentrate and maybe grouchier than your usual self, which isn’t fair on anyone, including you.

Furthermore, you can make your sleeping routine even more beneficial by adding skincare that will work wonders to encourage and maintain youthful skin. Using age-defying products, like retinoids and certain facial acids, will help reduce and banish wrinkles, and also act as exfoliants. Just be sure to incorporate a sunscreen product in your daytime, as these products can make your skin sensitive to the sun.

Maintain a Skin Care Regime

Whilst eating healthy, drinking water, and exercising can all help with keeping your skin youthful and your bodies, both internally and externally healthy, as well, you need to have a skincare regime too. No matter where you are, you need to incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine.

Of course, keeping skin healthy and preventing premature aging is always easier than treating it, but there are things that can undo certain levels of damage. It’s never too late to have a skincare regime. This will include using a gentle cleanser and exfoliant, along with serums and a moisturizer that will need to be used in the morning and evening. If you’re ever in doubt, ask for help, and remember that as you age, your skincare needs will change too. It’s also worth changing your products every once in a while, so your skin doesn’t get too complacent and the effectiveness of what you’re using wears off.

Reduce the Bad Stuff

Doing all the above will not make a difference if you’re consistently consuming things you know you shouldn’t as well as doing things you know you shouldn’t on a daily, or even regular, basis. This approach will basically undo everything you’re doing, meaning it’ll take longer for you to see results, if you see any.

We’re not saying you can’t treat yourself, but suggestions this approach is the exception rather than the rule. So if you like a glass of wine at the end of every day, or with your meal, consider diluting it, or saving it for the weekend. The same applies to your caffeine consumption if you consume it several times a day.

Whilst both alcohol and caffeine can be beneficial to our skin, in excess it will have the opposite effect, by stealing key nutrients from it, not to mention cause it to dehydrate. Even worse, is that these can cause permanent detrimental effects to your skin, making it look older.

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to having that youthful skin you’re after. Remember, this takes time to achieve, but you will get there. But before then, your skin will need to get rid of any impurities that are underlying, so you may have a break-out before your skin gets to the standard you’re after.

The secret is to develop a routine and persevere. Part of this must involve what you put into your body, just as what you put onto it. As we all have different skin types, you need to find what works for you and your skin. You’ll need the patience to discover what does, but we guarantee you’ll find your own regime and feel better for it.
