What to wear to a Spring wedding

With Spring events such a far-flung memory as a result of the pandemic which has interrupted Spring wedding plans over the last two years, hoards of couples and their guests are finally looking forward to celebrating together in the warmer months this year.

But what do you wear to a Spring wedding, how have fashions changed, and what are the best colours that you can find in the Spring formalwear department this year?

What to find out before you go shopping

Before you start planning for your wedding outfit shopping trip, there are a few things we recommend finding out first. One of the most important factors which will influence your outfit is the weather – with Spring notoriously difficult to predict in terms of whether the sun will come out or not (they don’t call them April showers for nothing!)

Another thing that can prove hugely helpful is understanding the venue, and whether the wedding and reception will be inside, outside, or a combination of the two. Here at Crondon Park, our venue offers guests an array of locations for chatting and taking photos, with the stretching lawns sometimes impacting the shoes that female guests in particular might opt for.

When in doubt, research the venue and find out a little more about where the event is being held to understand your need for layers, wide heels, and maybe even an umbrella.

Spring trends that are in this year

Once you understand the venue and know what you need to ensure you are comfortable and warm throughout the event, it’s time to go shopping!

Spring is always a time when pastel colours appear on the shelves, tapping into those soft and warm shades, and optimising vibrant patterns as we celebrate the appearance of the sun and warmer days.

Another growing trend in the Spring wedding outfit sector is two-piece outfits, with many guests opting for a skirt and top instead of a dress – sometimes in block colours and other times blending together two different colours or patterns to create a standout finish.

And then we come to sleeves and the question on everyone’s lips – is it best to opt for a long sleeve, or risk it with a strappy dress and a shawl for warmth? Both will work, but long sleeves have been on-trend ever since Kate Middleton embraced them for her own April wedding.

And finally, to shoes. Do you opt for an open toe sandal and bare legs, or do you keep those toes warm in a closed shoe? This one is up to you, but we recommend referring back to your venue plan and steering clear of stiletto heels if the venue includes any lawns or grass – you might just end up sinking into damp grass if you’re not careful!
