Africa Alive Zoological Reserve 

If your family are animal lover, the Africa Alive Zoological Reserve is a day out not to be missed. 

Discover the sights and sounds of African animals, including hunting dogs, giraffes, lions and many more. The zoo holds daily talks and feeds to allow guests to get up close to the animals and learn lots of interesting facts.

Sutton Hoo

Sutton Hoo is one of those fascinating attractions that you will talk about with your friends and family for years to come. The Anglo-Saxon royal burial site is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time and has a 17-metre viewing tower and 18 burial mounds. 

History lovers will enjoy learning about the landscape and how it impacted the lives of Anglo-Saxons. 

Pakenham Water Mill

This historic watermill has been in Pakenham for nearly a thousand years and is the oldest remaining flour mill in Suffolk. 

Pakenham Water Mill has also been voted as one of the best landmark sites in all of Britain by BBC Countryfile magazine.

Mid Suffolk Light Railway Museum 

Located deep in the heart of the stunning Suffolk countryside, the Mid Suffolk Light Railway Museum (also known as the Middy) is the only standard gauge heritage railway in the area. 

All you need to do is gather the family, climb aboard one of the enchanting steam trains and enjoy a relaxing journey through Wetheringsett. 

There’s also a small museum that re-tells the story of the railway from a hundred years ago. 

Southwold Pier

If you’re looking for a good day out regardless of the weather, Southwold Pier ticks all of the boxes. 

You’ll find tasty food, great shopping facilities and stunning sea views all in one place. For the wet and windy days there’s also plenty of indoor entertainment such as arcades and retro games. 

The water clock at Southwold Pier is a unique and cheeky design that many people visit each year.

Gainsborough Museum

There has never been a better time to visit East Angelia’s “cultural hub”! As Gainsborough House recently reopened after a £10 million renovation.

Gainsborough, a Sudbury native, was regarded as one of the most accomplished painters of his era. Gaining notoriety in the 18th century for his portraits of the Royal Family and other aristocrats or affluent people. Gainsborough also served as a founding member of the London-based Royal Academy.

The museums redevelopment ‘includes the creation of a Gainsborough Gallery, lined with Sudbury silk and bringing together 20 of his portraits and landscapes, some on loan from private and public collections.’
