The 90’s

The sunglasses have got small, tinted and colourful as this seasons catwalk saw the classic rectangle frame on every nose. From friendship bracelets to flatforms, spring and summer will be jam packed with all the nostalgic trimmings.

Platform sandals

Flatforms were absolutely huge both over on the runways as well as the trickling high street trends, with a compilation of mostly 70s and 90s throwbacks we’re seeing the statement sandal take to the catwalks with ornate detailing, so let’s cast our minds to the platforms of the Spice Girls and the overwhelming girl power that hit the nation where every girl ran to the shops to purchase a replica.

Braided Dresses

Another major trend that has seen the spotlight is aztec patterns and organic fabrics used in evening attire. It’s a nod to the flapper dress with a modern twists that was taken from 90’s

“I was looking at a friendship bracelet you had as a kid – but used the idea to hand-braid a triptych of dresses like these that are all knotted by hand,”

Dancing Onto The Runway

Statement sleeves have been huge over the past 12 months, with the continued use of the classic ruffle sleeve, seen on the designs of Simone Rocha and Ryan Lo. It’s ruffles galore in the ultimate summer daydream with looks from collections by Oscar de la Renta and Jeremy Scott.

50 Shades Of Sunshine

This year has seen bold block colouring with a palette of yellow hues including fifties lemon, mustard and sherbet. Seen on rain macs, tailored suit jackets by Molly Goddard and wacky polka dot designs of Mary Katratzou. Other major colours of the season include bubblegum pink, Starburst orange and cherry red. Rainbow is here to stay. The show stopping number that hit the catwalk was a butter yellow full length dress with a fabric flower pinned to the shoulder from Marc Jacobs inspired-by-somewhere-else collection for eccentric travellers.

Size Diversification

Finally a spectrum and true representation of women has seen on the most prestigious catwalks of the world, with size of any proportion being no issue. Now is the time more than ever to celebrate all sizes in their beautiful form, with more highlight on petite and plus size ready to wear collections and more diversify across the catwalks. Whatever your size, forget it as the beauty of you is being celebrated with more designers branching out to fit every kind of mould of a woman. Woohoo!

Seaside Stripes

Candy colours and vintage stripes, blurring us back to a time of striped beach huts and cherry red deck chairs by the seaside, seen on two piece suits and palazzo trousers.

Check List

Check mate – the check trend is back for another season and truly seeing it’s moment in the limelight. Graph paper and super fine check patterns have been unleashed with designs from Rosie Assoulin, Public School, Christian Siriano, Monse, Calvin Klein and rag & bone among many others.
