A Touch Of Luxury: Styling Silk & Fur

Kimonos in the winter? Ground breaking…

Whoever said kimonos are only made for festivals and walks along the beach? Today I’m styling mine up in ways that would probably make most people flip and run towards their nearest coat.

In the new year I’ve been fascinated with pastels, blush, coral and mustard. I think it’s my inner spring wanting winter to be over and fast forward the flowers blooming. Today I’m teaching a few tips on some of the latest trends which are silk and fur, and how they can be worked into your wardrobe this season.

Todays look is a mixture of two fabrics we rarely would ever see outside of an old black and white movie from the 1950’s. Mixing the future trends of silk and fur (faux of course!) I’ve combined a blush cossack hat with a darker toned scarf for contrast of pastels and monochrome. Teamed with a simple crop turtleneck for simplicity, and my favourite new mustard leatherette skirt. To finish off the look is a floral embroidered pom-pom trim shoulder bag that compliments the silk embroidered duster jacket. I love the little touches of luxury within this outfit that are daring yet complimentative. I still love the dark floral trend that’s still currently everywhere and juxta-positioning it against spring trends of pastel florals.

Styling Tips For Silk & Fur

1.

Silk is frankly everywhere we look. Some of my favourite pieces I’ve seen this season have been slip dresses, kimonos, bomber jackets and suits. So essentially we’re bringing back the stylish luxe pj look. Making the slip dress the minimalist style statement of 2017. I’ll be favouring the simple but beautiful creams and silver toned slip dresses.

2.

It’s been established the 70s is out and the 80s is in. Tuck away the gilets for another year, and expect the power suit to be re-incarnated in an epic evolution. Frankly I’m quite excited for a shoulder pad to come back. The style forecast has seen silk being one of the essential fabrics of the year, so I’ll be sporting a silk suit with large shoulders. Or if you’re not so confident going with a full silk ensemble try out a silk blouse or dress.

3.

As much as we all know I dig a faux fur jacket more than the average person, fur has taken a low key approach this year, in little details. So we’re gonna be seeing fluffy key rings (most people already have them!), fluffy bobble hats, fur on high heels and fur trim jackets. Embrace the boudoir look in pastels like me this year!
