Adding Wellness Goals to Your Morning Makeup Routine

Your morning routine might feel completely natural at this point. You’re probably on “auto-pilot” each day as you take the time to do your hair, makeup, and get dressed. But, there are so many benefits to being more mindful with your morning routine. Something as simple as putting on makeup can increase your productivity, reduce your stress, and help you feel more in control.

When you greet the day with open arms, your routine can integrate both your physical and mental wellness and help you achieve your goals.

Not sure what those goals should be or how you can integrate them into your makeup routine? It’s easier than you might think. Your beauty routine can have a great impact on your health if you set the right intentions.

Let’s look at a few ways you can include wellness goals into your morning makeup routine and how you can achieve them each day.

Setting Small Goals Each Day

It’s easy to mindlessly put on makeup each day, especially if you go through the same routine. Most people have a specific order in which they apply things, so you might find yourself daydreaming or getting distracted by random thoughts while going through that order.

Instead, try to focus on small, intentional goals for the day. It’s a great motivator and can help you reduce stress and be more productive. Your wellness goals should be relevant to the things you’re doing that day. For example, if you’re getting ready for work, set a goal to take frequent breaks.

If you’re on vacation or going camping, your wellness goals might include

  • Staying hydrated
  • Applying sunscreen
  • Listening to your body to take it easy
  • Packing nutritious snacks
  • Moisturizing your skin

Small, daily wellness goals will make it easier to eventually conquer larger ones. Plus, accomplishing them each day will make you feel good. It’s another way to reduce your stress levels. If you struggle with worry or anxiety, small goals can also help to ease those worries. You’ll be more in control of your actions, and you can find a sense of calm after accomplishing each small task.

Taking Care of Your Surroundings

Have you ever heard the phrase “clean as you go?” It’s often used in the kitchen to make the task of cleaning up while cooking less overwhelming. The same principle can be applied while you’re doing makeup. Not only will it make the cleanup routine less daunting, but it can also have a positive impact on your mental health.

Take a look at your counter or vanity where you put on makeup. Go ahead, we’ll wait …

Did you do it?

Did it make you cringe a little?

If your makeup and products are scattered throughout the bathroom, it could be causing more stress than you realize. There are so many benefits to decluttering, including improved focus and reduced stress and anxiety. By cleaning up your products as you’re using them, you’ll set a positive tone for the day and you’ll be able to focus on other ways to boost your wellness. Need some creative makeup organization tips? Try some of the following:

  • Stack products on a small lazy susan
  • Keep your brushes in a glasses case
  • Store nail polish in a cookie jar
  • Keep items gathered on one tray or shelf
  • Use small drawers

The way you declutter and organize your makeup space should be a reflection of who you are and what you want. It all ties into feeling less stressed and more positive as you start the day.

Using the Mirror as an Opportunity

You probably look in the mirror every morning while you’re putting on your makeup. But, when was the last time you really paused and reflected on yourself? Some people have a hard time looking in the mirror for too long, as they start recognizing and judging their flaws.

If you use it as an opportunity to recognize your beauty and what makes you unique, it can be a totally different experience. Taking a few minutes to reflect each morning is a great way to practice mindfulness. Be present in the moment and take a few deep breaths to relax.

As you look at yourself, try to banish any negative thoughts and focus on the positives. What are some things you love about yourself? You might have a great smile or beautiful blue eyes. It won’t take long to go beyond the physical things you love, so don’t be afraid to focus on the internal as well as the external. Dig deeper into who you are and the goals you want to accomplish. This kind of affirming routine every morning can make you more confident in reaching those goals.

As you can see, there is so much more you could be getting from your makeup routine each morning. Keep these ideas in mind to integrate your wellness goals into that routine, and to make your mental and physical health greater priorities in your life.
