“I’m a Congratulater, Not a Hater”: How Hayson Tasher Sr. Turned Self-Investment Into Opportunity
Success stories often begin with a big break. For Hayson Tasher Sr., they began with a decision to invest in himself. Based in Gardena, California, Hayson Tasher Sr. is the founder of OLDPGS (Old Patrolman Guard Services), a security company providing armed and unarmed security officers, school security services, loss prevention, investigations, alarm response, and free consulting.
But long before launching his own company, Hayson was focused on building something equally important: his own skills, knowledge, and qualifications. His philosophy is simple:“I’m a congratulator, not a hater.” It’s a mindset that has shaped both his career and his approach to business.
Building a Future Through Self-Investment
Before founding OLDPGS in 2018, Hayson spent years obtaining licenses, permits, certifications, and industry experience. Alongside working in security, he became a licensed bail bondsman (Certification #2002) and earned a bounty hunter certification.
Rather than relying on a single source of income, he focused on expanding his professional opportunities through continuous learning and personal development. Looking back, Hayson believes those investments changed the course of his career. “I observed I invested in myself so much by obtaining licenses, permits, and certificates; I became bigger than the security firm I was employed at the time.” That realization ultimately inspired him to launch OLDPGS, a company built around professionalism, reliability, and service.
Today, the company operates under two guiding principles: “Dedicated to a safe and secure environment.” Like many entrepreneurs, Hayson’s journey involved recognizing opportunity and taking action.
One memorable moment came in 2019 when OLDPGS provided security services for Cali Culture Fest in Downtown Los Angeles. The event was hosted by rapper Ras Kass and featured DJ Prophet. As one of the company’s early event assignments, it represented an important milestone in the growth of the business.
For Hayson, experiences like these reinforced the value of preparation and professionalism. He believes opportunities exist for everyone, but achieving success depends on what individuals choose to do with them. “Opportunity can lead a person to their goals in life. But in reality, it’s up to them to react in a way of achieving their goals.” That perspective continues to guide both his personal and professional decisions.
Staying Focused on the Goal
One of the most important lessons Hayson shares comes from his own life. During the early 1990s, he trained in karate at Dojo Young Forrest and excelled in the program, even performing in front of live audiences. As opportunities began to emerge, including potential movie-related experiences, he found himself losing focus in school.
Looking back, he recognizes how distractions caused him to miss opportunities that could have changed the course of his journey. That experience taught him a lesson he still carries today: stay focused on your goals. It’s advice he now shares with others who are pursuing their own ambitions.
As OLDPGS continues to grow, Hayson has an ambitious vision for the future. His plans include launching retail locations under the Old Patrolman brand, offering security technology products, batons, footwear, firearms, and other industry-related equipment. He also hopes to establish security training centers and expand into a dedicated event-security company through an OLDPGS sister firm.
Inspired by organizations such as Pinkerton Detective Agency and Wells Fargo, Hayson Tasher Sr remains focused on creating opportunities, building his brand, and encouraging others to invest in themselves. For him, success starts with a simple principle: keep learning, stay focused, and never stop growing.
